Dear Children and Internet friends of Radio Lumiere,
I am Pastor Varnel Jeune, general director of Radio Lumiere. I happily salute you from my office installed in the courtyard of the station after the earthquake of January 12.
I am writing these lines on February 12, exactly one month after the tragic quake, which as you know, shook the entire country, destroyed Port au Prince, Leogane, and severely hit Jacmel.
One month after the earthquake, we are still counting dead bodies by thousands. Haiti is living the aftermath while facing human misery, humiliation, stress and fear of aftershocks. I am persuaded that you have seen, heard, and understood everything. More than ever, Haiti needs prayer, comprehension, and the love of its citizens living abroad.
The main building of Radio Lumiere at Carrefour held despite the shocks. We thank God for we only had some cracks here and there. However, we mourn the loss of three coworkers: Pastor Ginor Desplumes, director of programming, Marlene Joseph, news reporter and Jude Marcellus newscaster and co speaker of the show "Détente Dominicale" with his wife and sister. Most of the other staff members miraculously made it! I must underline that Radio Lumiere was perhaps the only station in Port au Prince to resume broadcasting immediately after the quake. We were able to get back on the airwaves right away to inform to population about the scope of the casualty. To God be all the glory!
Presently, we are broadcasting 24 hour a day with special programming to meet the needs of the nation. We are broadcasting from a makeshift studio in the courtyard. The courtyard also serves as office and shelter for most of our employees.
My last point is to launch a Macedonian Call to you dear Internet friends! We need you to help us financially. We cannot emphasize enough that our Haitian donor base, which constituted about 90% of our income, is depleted! If we are still around after the quake, it is because God has a plan for us. In this 51st year of the network, you can be a part of the plan of God for the network via your prompt and generous contribution. We await your response to this Macedonian Call for we need financial resources, fuel, and food so radio Lumiere can continue to accompany the Christians and the nation in these difficult times. Moreover, who knows if it is not for a time like this that God put you where you are now?
A direct transfer would be the best option via either CAM or Western Union with reference to Pastor Varnel Jeune cell phone3-462-5708, Cote Plage, Carrefour.
It is also possible to visit our site www.radiolumiere.org to give via the Internet. The site is secure by international standards.
We count on your prayers and contributions. Please remember that the need is urgent and that any amount is welcome! |
