I have looked for her/him earnestly; I have not found him/her. And you death, whom I do not desire, why are you all over? Who invited you? No one did. You came anyway. Well, you could be around, quiet, not crashing the party. Oh no, you had to come, yet at the wrong time, in the wrong place. You took the wrong folks. You are such a destroyer of life!
Every time you come, you bring sadness and sorrow. The emptiness that you beget in our families compares only to you evilness. What shall we do with you? Nothing, you are worthless.
Oh, maybe you are worth something after all! Because of your imminence, we could learn to count our days, to live each moment as if it were the last opportunity to do well the task at end. We could avoid putting off forgiving our debtors; disagree agreeably with our colleagues. We could strive to keep our promises, get rid of hindrances in our relationships. We could learn to be thankful, eradicate those ill feelings toward friends. We could learn to avoid counting on people too much knowing how fragile they are. Most of all, we could invite Jesus into our heart and take care of our salvation.
But, death o death, where have you come from? Who begot you? What an outsider you are! Well, you see death; you do not have the last word! Jesus won the victory over you! We have that assurance. One day you will be chained forever.
No matter how much you try to take away our hope, to intimidate us, to cripple us, to turn us into zombies, you will always be a failure. You will strike down a soldier; you will not destroy the whole army. Fortunately, we know that you are limited as far as time is concerned.
One day, you will be nowhere to be found. You will cease to exist. You and he who use you are doomed. In the name of Jesus, we will have enough strength left to live positively and to cry loud and strong “Praise the Lord, vive la vie”
